Cook Homestead in White Salmon is minutes from downtown Hood
River and the best windsurfing sites in the Columbia River Gorge. The activities
to be enjoyed in the Gorge are limitless, from climbing Mount Adams to skiing
all year round on Mount Hood, 45 minutes away. There is world-class kayaking
on the White Salmon River, as well as fishing or rafting. The Deschutes
River, Wind River, Hood River and Klickitat River are water-wonderlands
as well.
Visit Timberline Lodge for a gourmet dinner or hike the many trails in this amazing
Columbia River National Scenic Area which stretches from Crown Point to Maryhill
Museum. Spend an afternoon at Carson Hot Springs for a soak and massage. Then
return to Cook Homestead for a relaxing evening on private grounds with the
most beautiful views to be had in the Gorge. Make coffee and walk down
Cook Road in the quiet of the morning for some great birdwatching. And
Horse-back riding is not to be missed, just a few miles away up Buck Creek
past Northwestern Lake.
Hood River has small town charm but White Salmon has home-town charm. Both
have a variety of dining and shopping, but for local produce, White Salmon
has Dicky Farms in Bingen and Meadows Fruit Stand is barely two miles away. Trout
Lake is home to Mount Adams, 40 miles away. Portland, Oregon is but an hour away
if you crave a bit of city life. Portland is known for it’s museums and
galleries as well as its fine dining, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, as well as
Omni-max at the Science Museum and a world class Zoo.
I think you will be back once you see the beauty here.
